Junie B

Hey y’all, Junie B here, I have been hiking Virginia State Parks trails ever since I was a just a young pup and I only had one toy, which was a stick. I first discovered Virginia State Parks after I heard about a cool dog named Yoda Heltman who took his folks to stay in a park cabin.

I thought “I wonder if we could all go to a Virginia State Park cabin?” (Except the cat of course, cats don’t hike trails nor do fun stuff with the family like we dawgs do).  And that thought was all it took for me to put the ball in motion.

Our first state park was Bear Creek Lake which was a perfect beginner state park for my family, as the trails were flat and the little lake made my big sisters squeal with delight since they got to go swimming and get wet. I can get wet, if I want to, and I am willing if there is something to fetch or eat as a reward, like bacon.

We also chilled on the dock, just my sisters and me and told scary stories by night after eating s’mores made over a hot flame, I know cuz I burned a few whiskers sniffing it…and since I am not into s’mores Dad let me chew on a stick instead. I was really diggin’ it too!

I am happy to report that the whole family had funzy wunzies. Since then I have taken them to many more Virginia State Parks and hiked many more trails. If I don’t take them for walkies they get all bound up and cranky, unlike me who likes to smile all the time.

When I am not hiking the trails at a Virginia State Park, I live in the mountains of Virginia where I keep the squirrels at bay, and chase butterflies around the garden.  One of my favorite things to do at home is to tell Dad to sit on the porch while we look out and he sips a cup of coffee; this is when we really bond, after all he is this dog’s best friend. I love my family and I love Virginia State Parks, I love both of them even more when I have bacon (just in case Mum is reading this).

If I had to pick just one trail as my favorite I could not do it, I want to hike every trail at every Virginia State Park, and I hope you will come along with me!

Go where the big dawgs go y’all, to Virginia State Parks…

and remember, paws were meant to get muddy!
